Faride Schroeder is a Mexican writer/director with a strong and intuitive feminine perspective. Her work as a director has been featured in publications such as the Los Angeles Times, Brut France, Vogue and Time Out; she was named one of the 5 rising international directors to watch by Nowness and one of the 100 Most Creative People in Mexico by Forbes.
Faride is the Ambassador for Free The Work in Mexico, a global initiative for female filmmakers and underrepresented creators founded by Alma Har’el, and co-founder of the Mexican women’s collective Dear Sisters. She was an ambassador for the ‘More Like Me’ program and was part of the international jury for the Young Director Award at Cannes Lions. She was also a panelist on the Diversity and Inclusion panel during Advertising Week in New York and at the Forum on Gender-Based Violence in Mexican Cinema, organized by the Mexican Film Academy.
With 20 years of experience in the national and international film and advertising industries, Faride has directed commercials and branded content for major global brands such as American Express, Heineken, Cerveza Victoria, Chevrolet and Nissan, working with world-class agencies such as Ogilvy, Grey, Leo Burnett and Publicis. His work has been signed by The Lift and Madrefoca, two of the most renowned production companies in Mexico, Madre in the US and now by Miss Sunshine in Brazil.
Faride holds a degree in Communication and Film Studies from the Universidad Iberoamericana - Mexico City. In film, she has worked with producers such as Nicolás Celis (Roma), Jim Stark (Coffee and Cigarettes), Leonardo Zimbrón (Nós los Nobres), María Altamirano (All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt), and is also the creative co-producer of the feature films The Black Minutes (2021), which received 8 nominations and 3 awards at the Mexican Academy Awards, and Son of Monarchs (2021), chosen as a Critic's Choice by the New York Times, which won the Alfred P. Sloan Award at the Sundance Film Festival.
Faride is also the director of the first two episodes of the CNN original series Searching for Mexico, hosted and executive produced by Eva Longoria, which was released by BBC and Max in the US and Europe.
Faride writes and directs her own films, which have screened at La Semaine de la Critique, Fantasia Film Festival, Cinélatino Rencontres de Toulouse, Morelia Film Festival and SFC 'Best Mexican Shorts' at the Cannes Film Festival, among others. Her 18-minute film Mercy (2014) is one of the most watched on FilminLatino, the platform of the Mexican Film Institute. Her short film Oasis (2020) won both the national and international Nespresso Talents awards at the Cannes Film Festival. Her short film Daughters of Witches (2021), starring Oscar nominee Yalitza Aparicio, premiered internationally at the Fantasia Film Festival and won Best Short Fiction at the 30th San Diego Latino Film Festival, and was produced by Disney and released on Hulu.
Her feature documentary Oasis won the Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund for post-production at the Los Cabos Film Festival, and her dystopian feature script The Lovers of this World was selected by the Morelia Film Festival for the screenwriting lab directed by French writer Philippe Claudel.
Faride is currently working on a female-focused horror film, The House in Coyoacán, with Mexican writer Lore V. Olivera, aimed at the U.S. market.
